When the holidays roll around, it’s basically a guarantee that at least some of the presents I give will be picture gifts. I’ve done the standard presents over and over – framed prints, photo books, calendars, and canvases. But, I’m always looking for fun, personalized photo gifts and love to venture into the world of photo pillows, metal prints, table runners, tapestries, and housewares. This is when I turn to Collage.com.

Last year, I posted all about how I love Collage.com for sending picture presents to loved ones all over the world, and this year I got a chance to enjoy one of their gifts for myself. I ordered myself the Custom Sherpa Photo Blanket that arrived just days ago and it’s now one of my most favorite things I own. That’s not even a slight exaggeration. The thing is, it’s not just one of my favorite things, it is also very popular with the whole family.

We discovered Modarri cars last year, and we quickly became obsessed. Basically, they are everything my son loves.

Things with wheels: check So, what are Modarri cars? They are build-it-yourself custom cars that you can mix and match and customize to your heart’s content.

Each car even comes complete with a special hex tool so you can break down each car into its multiple parts: a chassis, hood and windshield, seat pan, seat, fenders and frame, and wheels with front and rear suspension. And, each of those parts can be used with other Modarri car models so you can build and rebuild as often as you like to create whatever car strikes your fancy.

I never, ever thought I would utter the words “we’re a car family”. But, with a husband who hasn’t missed a car show since he was a tiny boy and a son who simply asks for “any cars I don’t have” for Christmas and birthdays, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Obviously, my daughter and I were the holdouts, content to let the boys play with their cars – some toys, some very real that take up my whole driveway – and smile.

But, then we found the world of Modarri cars, and I think we all got a little giddy at all the possibilities for this amazing new take on the toy car. I spend a good deal of my time at home in the kitchen. Whether I’m making dinner, washing dishes, packing lunches, or prepping snacks, the kitchen is where you will find me. My kids have seen me in the kitchen their whole lives and love to watch me cook and prep, so it’s really no surprise how interested they are in how things work in the kitchen.
