Build Anything with CitiBlocs

It’s a rare children’s toy that is as beloved by adults as it is the intended age group, but CitiBlocs are definitely one of those rare toys.  One glance through YouTube and you will see CitiBlocs that CitiBlocs certainly aren’t merely child’s play.  We’re talking massive multi-person creations that took days {yes, days} to construct, but mere seconds to destroy.

These videos are stunning with the mesmerizing time-lapse footage showing the building process block by block, and then the inevitable destruction that follows once the masterpiece is constructed.  I could seriously watch the videos all day long, so I love following the CitiBlocs Facebook page for the newest videos so I can celebrate as the structure is built and then marvel as it is destroyed.

But, even more fun than watching the videos is actually playing with the CitiBlocs and seeing how creative we can all get.  And, trust me, with blocks that have “build anything” as their motto, you can certainly get creative.

Whereas most wooden building blocks come with pieces of various sizes and shapes, CitiBlocs are unique in that each piece is exactly the same size.   While this might at first seem limiting, think of a 727949etraditional block set and the fact that there’s square and rectangular building pieces, tubular pillars, triangles for peaked tops, and … that’s about it.

Not having much in the way of uniform pieces in a traditional block set means that creating real structures and objects is out and you’re pretty much left with the suggestions pictured on the front of the box – a bunch of blocks stacked like a tower and crowned with a triangle top.  While fun, we found that traditional blocks don’t “grow” well and have never lead to days of play at our house or done much in the way of inspiring little imaginations.

CitiBlocs HouseBy contrast, CitiBlocs are the new rage at our house and we spend hours making masterpieces together with the 100 piece Camouflage CitiBlocs set we received.  Since each piece is exactly the same size, it means you don’t need glue, nails or connector pieces to design and can create structures you could only dream about before with other building sets.  Want a log cabin for all your critters?  No problem.  A tower for looking out over the prairie? Done.  A skyscraper for the center of Kidville?  You dream it and you can build it.

If you haven’t seen CitiBlocs before, here’s the basis of what you need to know: CitiBlocs are extremely high quality wooden blocks that are precision cut from Grade A Radiata Pine in certified renewable forests in New Zealand.  They Preschooler Buildingare safe, non-toxic, and most importantly, are a whole lot of fun for ages 3+.  Not only do they come in multiple colors and finishes, they also have accessories that you can buy to expand your pack and allow for even greater creativity to take place.

Of course, CitiBlocs would be a great present for a young kid this holiday season, but I would actually argue that they are a great family present as well since the older kids have just as much fun playing with them as the young do.  Don’t believe me?  Just set a box of CitiBlocs on the coffee table at your next gathering and see how much fun they can be in a group setting!
