Why you should take your kids to see Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out

Sponsored post Image003
Sometimes I forget how hard it is to be a kid. Navigating childhood is a mine field filled with mean kids, peer pressure, tough schoolwork, and embarrassing moments. And, all the while you are figuring out who you are and how you fit into your family, your school, your teams, and with your friends. Now that my kids are getting older, I find myself looking at them a lot and wondering what is going on inside their heads.

Is that a tired look, or is that sadness? Is that pure joy, or are they holding back for some reason? Are their friends including them or are they feeling left out? Try as I might to find out what’s going on, most of the time when I ask how things are going or about how they feel about specific people and situations I get the same response.

“Good,” they say. Good? What does “good” mean, anyway?

101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition arrives on DVD and Blu-ray combo pack today

Sponsored post101 Dalmatians, one of the most beloved movies of my childhood is arriving for the first time on Digital HD, Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, Disney Movies Anywhere and On-Demand and I couldn't be happier. I've been waiting to share the film with my family for years and have been counting down the days until we could enjoy a family movie night with Pongo, Perdita, and their adorable puppies.

When my firefighter-obsessed son first spied the 101 Dalmatians DVD and Blu-ray combo pack that arrived last week, he immediately declared that he wanted to watch the "fire dog movie". While I made sure to tell him there was no fire theme to the movie, I knew he wouldn't be upset once he saw the film and got to see the adorable puppies on the screen.  101 Dalmatians

Maleficent comes to DVD and Blu-ray November 4th {with Halloween villain fun downloads}

Sponsored postIn front of Sleeping Beauty castleEver since my childhood, I have been obsessed with all things Sleeping Beauty. I have definitely passed this love down to my children and there is nothing they love more than exploring Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disney Land, dressing up like Princess Aurora, or admiring my miniature model of the Wood Cutter's Cottage I've had since my teens.

How could you possibly resist the magic of the fairies, the beautiful scenery, and the amazing Sleeping Beauty castle? More importantly, how can you not love to hate Maleficent? I think we can all agree that she’s one of the best Disney villains of all time. Even though she made her debut decades ago, her role has proven to be timeless. So, isn't it time we learned her side of the story?

Surely she wasn't that distraught over not being invited to a baby shower…. right? So, why bestow such an awful gift on a helpless baby? Where does her hatred for Aurora come from? And why on Earth would she trust a crow to be her eyes and ears in going about her evil plans?Maleficent in DisneylandClearly, there is a lot more to know about about this ruthless villain, which is why I love the new Disney movie Maleficent and cannot wait for the DVD and Blu-ray release next week.

Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue is in theaters now

On the morning of my son’s third birthday, he came running into our bedroom to wake us up. He wasn’t wondering about cake or parties or even presents, what he really wanted to know was when he could be a fire fighter. When I explained to him that he had to be grown up – not just merely older – to fight fires, his face fell. I felt so bad for the little guy that I promised him that we would get him a fire fighter outfit and make him a fire engine so he could play fire fighter all day long. 6a0105362badb1970b019affe662a6970d-800wiIt’s been 9 months since then and his obsession with fire fighters has only grown, so as soon as I heard about Disney Planes: Fire and Rescue coming to theaters this summer, I knew I had to take him. He already had a deep love for Dusty from the first Disney Planes movie, so I was anticipating he would fall hard for the new film as well.

As it turns out, he loved it even more than I ever imagined. All week long, the kids have been fighting their own pretend fires at home while playing Planes: Fire and Rescue and I couldn’t be happier.

Need for Speed Seattle screening and Q&A with Aaron Paul and Scott Waugh

by Tyler, editor and reviewer

Scott Waugh and Aaron Paul
A few weeks ago we got to hang out with my pals Aaron Paul and Scott Waugh for a bit when they came to Seattle for a press screening of their new film, Need for Speed. We talked about fast cars, explosions, and what it's like doing stunt work while driving around cars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Not impressed yet? What if I told you that I also got to hang out with Sir Mix-A-Lot before the movie started? Oh, yeah, this happened. Need for Speed Sir Mix-A-Lot

See An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky this Saturday 7/13 on NBC

I remember when I used to cry during love stories, carried away with whatever misunderstanding brought the lovers apart and on the edge of my seat to see if they would eventually get back together.  Now, I cry during kid’s movies – specifically ones that I can see my own children in.  These days, the … Read more

Oz The Great And Powerful – in theaters today {Review}

Earlier this week, I took a trip to the Emerald City {AKA Seattle} to see a prescreening of Disney’s Oz The Great And Powerful in 3D.  After years of anticipation followed by months of checking out every trailer, poster, and interactive feature for the new Wizard of Oz film, I was a bit worried it would be somewhat of a let-down after all the hype.

Oz the great and powerful
But, as it turns out, the power of Oz to enchant knows no bounds.   I think every single person in the packed theater that night was equally transfixed as we were transported back to the land of Oz in a time before Dorothy and her cohorts, before houses flew through the air, and even before the Wizard himself made Oz his home.

Sometimes when I’m snuggling with my daughter, she will put her hands on both cheeks, look into my eyes and say, “I never, ever want to turn you to a bear!”  The reference, of course, is the DisneyPixar movie, Brave that we saw last spring and she has been talking about ever since.  A heartwarming … Read more
