My grandma makes the best apple crisps. She’s made one for just about every holiday meal as long as I can remember, so for me it’s the ultimate comfort food. Since we couldn’t get together for Easter this year, I decided to make my own apple crisp using my mix of apples and self rising flour instead of traditional flour.
Why self rising flour?
I bet you’re wondering why I seem to only use self rising flour, right? Fair enough. It started with a bag of self rising flour I was trying to get rid of a few years ago, and I found I preferred it in baked goods.
For the past few years I’ve used self rising flour in every type of baking I do {besides baked sandwich breads}. Self rising flour has a lighter texture than traditional flour because of the self rising aspect, which makes for amazing baked goods. The bonus is the all-in-one combination cuts down on ingredients dramatically. Why not make baking even easier?
I strongly encourage you to play around with self rising flour and see how fun the results are. Be sure to scroll down to see all of our popular self rising flour recipes below. Check this post for even more self rising flour recipes as well as how to convert regular flour to self rising.

Ready to bake the Apple Crisp with self rising flour?
Preheat oven to 350 F degrees. Spray 8×8 baking dish with nonstick spray. While the oven is preheating, peel and chop 8 medium apples. If some peel remains on the apples, don’t stress. I’ve made it numerous times without peeling the apples at all and it’s just as delicious in my opinion. Once your apples are chopped, add sugar, lemon juice, and half of the cinnamon. Stir into the apples well.In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar, self rising flour, oats, the remaining cinnamon, salt and chopped butter. Stir mixture well, or combine with fingers if the butter isn’t soft enough.Grab your sprayed 8×8 pan and place half of the apple mixture in baking dish. Cover with half of brown sugar mixture and pat down. Next you will add another layer of apples to the baking dish and top with remaining brown sugar mixture.
Pop into the oven an bake for 45 – 55 minutes until apples are cooked through.Serve the apple crisp warm with ice cream or whipped cream. If you really want a treat, drizzle some caramel on top to finish it off. It’s amazing served at brunch or as an after-dinner treat.

I use to make it, but I used the recipe on the bag of flour, but I can’t find it. I guess I thought the recipe would always be on the back of flour. So I going to try this recipe.I hope it turns out good.
I am glad i came across your apple crisp recipe . I was looking for a different recipe to use some apples my husband got its just the 2of us so we cant eat all of them and I have always brought self rising flour ever since i started cooking at the age of 8 which i want say how many decades that was . Lol. Mostly all recipes call for plain flour and i just don’t see buying flour that you have to buy extra stuff to put in it to bake or use it in any recipes so glad i came across a great apple crisp recipe that i am excited to try but there’s someone else out there that has self rising flour in there kitchen.
I just tried it it was awesome getting ready to make a bigger pan full I will double or even triple the recipe for the whole family I’m sure the grand kid’s will love it.
