Cinnamon applesauce bread with self-rising flour

Is it just me or is everyone else baking like crazy? I don’t really consider myself a baker, but that may all change now that I’m adding a new family favorite to the mix of baked goods I’ve perfected. Introducing the very best cinnamon applesauce bread with self-rising flour, ever.Applesauce bread 5 with self rising flourActually, it might be the *only* cinnamon applesauce bread with self-rising flour. But, that still makes it the best, right?

A whole new bread: cinnamon applesauce bread with self-rising flour is born

Today I was craving our banana bread with self rising flour that we make every few weeks, but we didn’t have any bananas to use. Sigh. Instead of going out to buy bananas only to let them sit on my counter for a week or two until they were perfect for the recipe, I decided to make up a new recipe. Applesauce bread with self rising flour

I was staring at a huge batch of homemade applesauce I made when we harvested my aunt’s apple orchard, and thought I would build a dish around that. So, I decided to use that as one of the liquid ingredients in our favorite self-rising flour recipe with a few cinnamon-y tweaks. Basically, I took our beloved banana bread recipe with self rising flour and substituted homemade applesauce for bananas, reduced the vanilla and sugar, and then added cinnamon.

Oh, and then I added a brown sugar cinnamon swirl and a crumble to the top just because I could. I’m positive it would be delicious without the brown sugar and cinnamon, but with it, it’s straight up amazing. It’s like a coffee cake, only lighter. Like a banana bread, but milder. It’s like an apple bread, but smoother.

It’s in a category all its own, and it’s delicious. Applesauce bread 3 with self rising flour

  1. Love the idea. Made a few attempts but it doesn’t seem to be baking properly. Ends up very tasty but a lil gummy and undercooked like. Even put it in for an extra 20-30 minutes. Any thoughts/advice??

    • The only thing I can think of is either the type of applesauce or whether you have a convection oven? I’ve made it a few times now and it was always delicious, and I based it off my self rising flour banana bread recipe which I have used for years. I’m trying to think of what else could cause a gummy and undercooked loaf?

  7. Could this be made in a 7 inch by 7 inch square cake pan? Ac 9×5 equals 14 …as does 7 x 7…???
.. have you tried adding dried cranberries and toasted pecans to this applesauce bread?? Isn’t 325° kind of a low temp? Could this be baked in a toaster oven?? I don’t have an oven that works.

    • You can make it in any size pan, and yes, it can absolutely be made in a toaster as well. Unfortunately, I don’t have the cooking times for those cooking methods. Advice would be to just watch it close!
