A few years before I had kids, my cousin had a scare that sent them to the hospital only days after bringing home their newborn. I heard my cousin tell the story about how she was holding her baby and felt her stop breathing and I never quite got over it. My little cousin ended up being fine and was diagnosed with sleep apnea that was then treated, but I remember thinking “what if they hadn’t been holding her when she stopped breathing?”

I don’t think there’s anything more frightening than being handed a teeny tiny little baby and sent home with it, knowing that you are solely responsible for keeping that child safe. 24 hours a day. A time in which I would need to sleep, shower, and at some point, work from home. I vividly remember the first few days of parenthood when I would check my daughter’s breathing about 10 million times an hour and would only be able to concentrate on something else for a second if I had verified with 100% accuracy that she was, in fact, still breathing.

There were times I did some really crazy things because I couldn’t see her little chest rise and fall from my vantage point, including jumping out of the shower with shampoo and soap everywhere or pulling to the side of the road because I couldn’t see her well in the baby mirrors.
 
I really wish I could tell you that I got better at this worrying thing with my second child, but I actually think it got worse. I had his room completely wired with cameras and monitors so I could see him moving around in his crib whenever I wanted, but was still constantly frustrated about how hard it is to see a baby breathing during deep sleep, even on a monitor.

Unlike large movement monitors that are meant to be placed in cribs that have wires and cords that can be dangerous to use around babies, the Snuza Go! is cordless and extremely portable. The actual monitor unit is lightweight and tiny and the part that touches baby has a small, flexible rubber tip that is actually quite comfortable. The unit only has two buttons {on/off and a mode/off} so it is really easy to operate. 
 
I love that the Snuza Go! is extremely portable and can be used in bassinets, cribs, and even during playdates because it's not big and bulky. It even comes with a handy carrying case to keep it in when you're not using it, which means you can bring it with you everywhere. Because what good is a movement monitor if you're only using it some of the time?

We've had so much fun testing the monitor and seeing how accurate it is. Even my big kids loved trying it on and seeing how still they could sit until the monitor alarm would sound. If you're wondering, they were never able to trick it. It's that good. Bonus: when big kids test the monitor they sit really, really still trying to make the alarm go off. This just may be a fun doctor's office game.

  3. I don’t think I slept at all for the first YEAR with my son. My new arrival is due any day now and I’m not looking forward to sleepless nights again!

  7. I didn’t get much sleep at all when we brought our little guy home. I would wake up almost every hour to check on him. I guess I’m just a paranoid mommy 🙂
