A big thank you to Andover for sending their SpinBase speaker system for turntables for review. All opinions are 100% ours and no monetary compensation was received for this rave review.
I’m not sure when record players became “in” again, because quite frankly, they’ve always been in style here at Rave Central. In fact, my first car audio system was just a “portable” 45 player that I could drop records into. And no, I’m not that old. My car stereo just never worked and I couldn’t stand the silence, so I found my parent’s old 45 player and begged them to let me take it in my car with me.
Over time, word spread about my 45 player, and people began to bring me records they found. I rocked out to a whole lot of 60s and 70s bands those years, and I barely missed having a radio. It’s now decades later, and we’ve been collecting all of our favorite albums on vinyl for years now. We have a pretty massive collection of LPs and 45s at this point, including a collection of limited-edition colored and clear vinyl.
But, the one thing that hasn’t been upgraded in all those years? Our old school turntable that was my parent’s back before I was born. Unsurprisingly, it has a lot of quirks in its old age. But, our biggest gripe about it was how it was stuck in one room of our house because in order to play it, it needs to be connected to a receiver as well as big huge speakers. Since neither of those things work in our main living spaces, that means our record player sits abandoned in a room we rarely hang out in.
So, all of our beloved records sit gathering dust.
Introducing SpinBase speaker system for turntables
The SpinBase from Andover Audio isn’t just a turntable speaker. Those are big, bulky, and have been around as long as turntables have been spinning. They typically are connected by feet of speaker wire around your room, and require speaker stands… and an entertainment center in order to hold all this stuff they require.
SpinBase is something entirely different. It’s a turntable speaker solution that has 270 degree sound dispersion and connects easily to any turntable – old or new. It has room-filling sound and fits compactly right under your existing turntable.
That’s right, it goes right under your turntable, essentially taking up no space while still offering four speaker drivers, giving listeners the detail, separation, and wide soundstage traditionally produced in separate stereo speakers. Using Andover’s IsoGroove Technology that prevents feedback, resonances, or any other audio-disruptive noise, you won’t get that terrible noise that typically occurs when a turntable is placed next to a speaker system.
The SpinBase is also Bluetooth and can connect to your phone, allowing you to play all your favorite tunes, digitally or otherwise. Why not have your turntable speaker do double duty and play all of your music library from one place?
Will the Spinbase fit your turntable?
SpinBase accommodates all popular large turntables, including the Numark TT-100, Technics SL-230, and Audio Technica LP-120. As long as your turntable feet fall within SpinBase’s dimensions {see diagram below} you are good to go.
The SpinBase works with ceramic or magnetic cartridge, It also has built-in pre-amp for turntables that require one. It’s basically the perfect system for whatever turntable you’re rocking because it makes whatever you’ve got sound absolutely amazing while playing all your favorite tunes.
