Blast! product for this post has been provided by AtGames and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.
Who doesn’t love Pac-Man? Up until this month, the only place I could get a Pac-Man fix was a restaurant a few towns over that we visit every couple of months. But, now I get Pac-Man and other favorite Atari classic games in the comfort of my living room with the Bandai Namco Flashback Blast!
Set-up couldn’t be easier; it really is a plug-and-play experience. All you have to do is put the dongle into your HDMI port, connect the dongle to a power source {comes with a micro-USB cable but no USB AC adaptor}. Then, you put batteries in your wireless controller and connect it to the HDMI dongle. Now you’re all ready to play all sorts of nostalgic classics!
Every Blast! includes high-definition video output, an intuitive menu system, save and resume game functionality and the ability to rewind a game in progress to recover from a play misstep. An optional second wireless controller can be purchased for games that support two players.
The Blast! games are perfect for families looking for a simple and inexpensive way to play all the timeless classic video games. The new Blast! products are now available at major U.S. and Canada retailers just in time for the holidays. With a great price point, it’s perfect for gifting or a great addition to your retro collection.
Have a Blast! with the greatest arcade games of all-time. The 8 Blast! games included are:
- Dig Dug (maze game) – In this 1982 arcade game, dig holes and eliminate underground-dwelling monsters either by inflating them with a pump or by dropping rocks.
- Galaga (shoot ‘em up game) – This 1981 sequel to Galaxian became one of the most commercially successful arcade games of all-time by taking all that was great about its predecessor and adding fun new elements like multi-shots, hit/miss ratio statistics, challenging stages, and more!
- Galaxian (shoot ‘em up game) – This 1979 space shooter was one of the first true multi-color arcade games and tasks the player with defeating hordes of attacking aliens.
- Mappy (platformer game) – In this frantic 1983 platformer, guide Mappy the police mouse through a mansion filled with cats called the Meowkies to retrieve stolen goods.
- Pac-Man (maze game) – The ultimate maze game from 1980 has you guiding Pac-Man through a maze containing Pac-Dots and four multi-colored ghosts: Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Eat a Power Pellet and it’s your turn to chase the ghosts!
- Sky Kid (shoot ‘em up game) – In this 1985 flying game, take control of a Sky Kid’s biplane, avoid obstacles, and bomb specific targets.
- Tower of Druaga (maze game) – In this innovative maze-based action role-playing game from 1984, assume the role of the hero Gilgamesh, whose goal is to rescue the maiden Ki from the demon Druaga.
- Xevious (shoot ‘em up game) – In this 1982 scrolling shooter, one of the first arcade games to get its own television commercial, pilot a combat aircraft called a Solvalou, which is armed with a forward-firing Zapper for aerial targets and a Blaster that fires an unlimited supply of air-to-surface bombs for ground targets.
Some fun Pac-Man facts:
The enemies in Pac-Man are known as “monsters” or “ghosts.” According to designer Toru Iwatani, each enemy was designed with its own distinct personality in order to keep the game from becoming impossibly difficult or boring to play.
Each official characterization, shown on the title screen, represents how the ghost acts in-game:
The red ghost is characterized as “Shadow” and is nicknamed “Blinky.”
The pink ghost is characterized as “Speedy” and is nicknamed “Pinky.”
The blue ghost is characterized as “Bashful” and is nicknamed “Inky.”
The orange ghost is characterized as “Pokey” and is nicknamed “Clyde.”
Pac-Man was one of the first games to feature a small set of cut-scenes, or “intermissions,” starring Pac-Man and Blinky, the red ghost. One of these three humorous interludes appears after rounds 2, 5, 9, 13, and 17.
