Smithey No. 10 Combo Set

A big thank you to Smithey Ironworks for sending the Smithey No. 10 Combo Set. All opinions are 100% ours and no form of compensation was received for this rave review.

I’ve talked in the past about how much money we wasted on generic cookware before we knew better, spending far more overall on lesser quality pieces that needed replacing within years. If I knew then what I know now, I would have skipped the discount cookware altogether. Even if it meant I could afford only one or two pans, I would have just started small and built an entire cookware set consisting of Smithey Ironware cast iron pans. Sure, I would have spent more initially, but not having to buy multiple cookware sets would have been a cost saver as well as a sanity saver in the long run.

It’s no secret that I love Smithey Ironworks and think they are the best cookware I’ve ever used. If you aren’t familiar with Smithey, they first thing you will notice is their gorgeous vintage styled pans, but what you will love about them is that every pan is made with the highest quality materials. Each of their pans are US made, have a lifetime guarantee, and many of them are engravable for those who want to gift a truly timeless gift to a loved one. The pans come pre-seasoned with 2-3 coats of pure grape seed oil that is applied by hand without any chemical coatings of any kind.

What’s in the Smithey No. 10 Combo Set

My new favorite in their line is the Smithey No. 10 Combo Set that will easily become your new everyday essential. The set is made up of Smithey’s No. 10 Skillet and No. 10 Flat Top Griddle, and each piece can both be used on their own or you can use them together as skillet and lid.

The No. 10 Flat Top Griddle has a 10″ flat surface that is great for the outdoor grill and pizza ovens, but I love to use it inside over the stovetop on in the oven. Smithey Ironware products are designed to be used wherever there is heat – from kitchens to campfires and more. You can cook on all sources, from gas and fire to induction and electric, and you won’t have to worry you might scratch your stovetop.

Next in the set is the one that started it all, the No. 10 Skillet. The skillet has a 2.0” depth and a 9” cook surface, making it the perfect size for cast iron baking and everyday stovetop cooking. It’s Smithey’s best-selling cast iron skillet and is ideal for 2-3 people. With Smithey’s signature polished interior finish, the No. 10, when seasoned, is naturally non-stick and free of chemical coatings.

Together, they make the Smithey No. 10 Combo Set. The No. 10 Flat Top is designed as a custom-fit lid for your No. 10 skillet, making the opportunities truly endless for using the two together or on their own. Fun fact: the No. 10 Flat Top is also a custom fit for the Smithey 5.5 QT Dutch oven.

What we love about the No. 10 Combo Set

Once it arrived, I couldn’t wait to get it out of the box and use it to make some amazing meals. I was immediately impressed with the weight of the skillet upon opening it. It’s hefty and solidly built, but not overly heavy so it would be difficult to clean or store. Speaking of cleaning, because the No. 10 Flat Top Griddle and Skillet is made of polished cast iron, it is incredibly easy to clean. Unlike rough cast iron, which allows food to get stuck in the crevices, polished cast iron like Smithey has a smooth surface that practically wipes clean. Even though many will tell you not to, with Smithey pans you can use soap, which I love.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t expect to hand down much of my furniture or many of my possessions to my kids. Things just aren’t made the way they used to be, and they certainly wouldn’t be called heirlooms. But Smithey hopes that your grandchildren will be happily using their cookware in decades to come. They designed and crafted every single Smithey to withstand the test of time and even become even better with age.

Just look at my new copper wall for displaying all of my beloved Smithey Ironworks pans. This wall was almost 6 months in the making, but it was so incredibly worth it. My husband started working on the wall last year, drawing out the plans and then right after Christmas he had some time to work on it. It was quite the labor of love since he wanted to make sure the wall and hooks could support the weight of the Smithey pans.

The biggest holdup in getting the wall up was that I had to track down this specific copper that matches our backsplash. I launched a massive search when I found out that the tiles were discontinued years ago, and as a last-ditch effort I emailed the manufacturer. At first, they said their stock had all been gone for years, but then I got a second email a few days later saying that the company had found a small stash in their warehouse and they could give it to me at a steep discount since it had some scratches and dents. Ironically, the amount they found was almost exactly the square footage we needed for this project. I think I got the very last tiles anywhere in the US, and obviously it was meant to be.

Shop Smithey Ironware here and see their collection of amazing US Made cookware. All skillets feature a satin-smooth, polished finish that is pre-seasoned. The No. 10 combo has traditional handles and the skillet has pour spouts. There are holes on both sides for hanging, which I love because I know the perfect spot to hang it.
