Cirque du Soleil Returns to Seattle with Volta

Cirque du soleil VoltaHave you thought about taking the kids to Cirque du Soleil? I admit, when I first considered attending the Seattle’s LUZIA performance last year, my immediate thought was “date night”. I definitely wasn’t alone in this, because I didn’t see a single child at the showing, so it just reconfirmed that it was the perfect opportunity for a date night with hubby. But, as soon as the performance started, all I could think was how much our kiddos would truly love it.

Cirque du soleil VoltaSadly, we weren’t able to make it happen with our crazy schedule during the run, but I knew that I needed to make it happen next time Cirque du Soleil came to town. Last night, after almost a year and a half in the works, we finally were able to make it happen and take the kids to see their very first Cirque du Soleil performance.

And, I must say, as exciting as it was to go to Cirque du Soleil’s LUZIA last year for date night, it was even more amazing to experience it as a family. Last night, we got to blow their minds with one of the best shows I have ever seen, and they cannot stop talking about how much they enjoyed every single minute of it.

About Cirque du Soleil VOLTA:

Energetic, urban and contemporary, VOLTA is a captivating voyage of discovery that showcases never-before-seen acrobatics under the Big Top, in a visually striking world. Driven by a stirring melodic score and inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of street sports, VOLTA is a story of transformation. It is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and recognizing one’s own power to make it possible. Ultimate freedom comes with self-acceptance, and with the liberation of judgement from others.

Cirque du soleil VoltaCirque du Soleil premiered VOLTA last night under its iconic Big Top at Marymoor Park. With this new production you will see the pushing of boundaries of circus arts by integrating high-adrenaline street sport disciplines and electronic music created by international composer and musical director Anthony Gonzalez, from renowned group M83.

Blow-your-mind amazing

Just like other Cirque du Soleil shows, VOLTA is an acrobatic show that combines music, dancing, amazing costumes, and some of the most mind blowing stunts and acts you’ve ever seen. We’re talking awesome bike stunts, roller skating, double dutch jump rope, amazing multi-story trampoline bounces, and so, so much more.

Cirque du soleil VoltaOne of the things I loved most is that unlike plays where the scene-to-scene design is done mostly behind the curtains, Cirque du Soleil employs a delicate dance of set design that allows you to watch as the stage literally comes to life right in front of you. In mere seconds, the scenes are taken down, cleared, and then rebuilt from nothing, all in one fluid motion. By using the rotating stage and what can only be described as set ninjas, the stage transforms over and over again throughout the performance. Cirque du soleil Volta

And, while these transformations are occurring, new acts are still entertaining you and keeping the energy level high throughout the entire show. These sets aren’t simple structures or backdrops, they are beautiful, acrobatic design structures, many of which move and change amidst the most elaborate landscapes. Cirque du soleil Volta

As we were watching the performance, I looked over at my family and they all were simply mesmerized. I leaned in to hug my daughter and she whispered, “It’s everything I love, Mama.”

You and me both, kiddo.

Some VOLTA facts:

Cirque du soleil VoltaIf you are in the Seattle area {or within a day or so drive}, you should definitely get your tickets to VOLTA before it’s gone. Do date night, if you want. Take the kids if  you think you will just regret not taking them. Whatever you do, just go. Trust me.
