This is now our second experience with Cloud 9 Living, and it definitely won’t be the last. Knowing how much fun I had before, my wife decided I needed to learn how to fly a helicopter.

The kids got into the surprise and created a scavenger hunt for me where I would find out the news that I would soon be cruising in a Robinson R-22 over Seattle. To get started on our helicopter lesson, we spent some time on the ground beforehand going over how the helicopter works, how to do the pre-flight checks, and how to add fuel for the flight. It was really cool to go in depth into how the helicopter mechanics work and learn so much in addition to the fun of flying. Once we got flying, we headed south from the airport and my instructor had me practice flying straight and making small adjustments, and then we started doing tighter turns which were really fun to do. After the turns, my instructor flew us over to some woods with a clearing in the middle and dropped us down in between the trees to show how you can land in pretty small areas. I’ve been in helicopters a few times now and it really never gets old being up in the air like that with the most amazing views you have ever seen, but being the one flying the helicopter is the stuff dreams are made of, and something I will never forget. All too soon it was time to head back and in my mind I was already scheming how I can get back in a helicopter again. The whole experience was just amazing; both for how incredible it was and also for how easy it all was to do. I’ve dreamed of flying a helicopter ever since I was young but up until I found out about Cloud 9 Living, I never thought it would ever become a reality.
