Mary Poppins 50th Anniversary
Is there anyone out there that didn’t want Julie Andrews as their nanny? What I would’ve given to have a babysitter like her instead of my pesky older siblings bossing me around {just kidding, siblings, you know I love you even though you can’t fly with umbrellas or make up well-orchestrated songs for our menial day-to-day tasks}.

Even though my days of wishing I had Mary Poppins as my nanny are long gone, my love for the film has never dimmed. Of course I was thrilled when I heard that in honor of its 50th anniversary, the classic Disney film Mary Poppins was going to be released on Blu-ray this year.

As much as I couldn’t wait to watch it myself, I was thrilled I could finally introduce my children to one of my favorite childhood films. While I love all the new films and the vibrant characters that Disney has brought to life in the past few years, I am also very excited about sharing the classic films with them, and this seemed like as good a time as any.

Just as I when I was young, within moments of popping in the disc I was transported back in time. Soon I was laughing along with my kids while watching Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews as well as singing along to “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, which was met with bewildered stares from my son and “again, again!” from my daughter.

In addition to the beloved movie, the new 50th Anniversary Mary Poppins also has some really cool bonus features such as the following:

Mary-OKE’s – New piece highlights popular music from the film, specifically “Spoon Full of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” Step In Time,” “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and allows viewer to sing-along to animated words that display onscreen in unique ways.

Becoming Mr. Sherman (TBC by theatrical team): Join actor Jason Schwartzman as he sits down for a fun and musical-filled afternoon with Richard Sherman. In the new film, SAVING MR BANKS, Schwartzman portrays the Disney Legend… half of the famous composing team, the Sherman Brothers who wrote all the classic songs from MARY POPPINS, as well as many other favorites. Hear heartwarming, revealing stories about the making of this beloved musical, get more insight on working with Walt Disney, and get a unique sneak peek into SAVING MR BANKS, starring Tom Hanks, and Emma Thompson.
