As our header would have you believe; we are big into biking as a family. I’ve posted before about how Spandex-free biking is the way that I roll, typically with skirts, dresses, cute little flats, and other items you wouldn’t expect to see on someone pedaling past you. But, what you don’t know is that my husband secretly wants to be a real biker. You know, the kind that doesn’t wear flip flops.
The past few years have been a slow upgrade process; first with the fancy new street bike, then with quick clip pedals, and then the biking shoes to fit the pedals. The next step was getting him to look more like a biker, with appropriate clothing and gear so he could go out on all day rides comfortably.
So, naturally when Kaidel Sportswear, a Seattle company, contacted us with the chance to try out their family cycling and running jerseys, we said yes. And, as excited as I was to find some fun Seattle-themed biking gear for hubby, I also loved that they carried childrens bicycle jerseys as well so I could get father/daughter cycling jerseys.
Since we all know how much my daughter loves to match, it will come as no surprise that she was crazy excited when she saw that daddy and her both got a real cycling shirt. While they didn’t pick the same design of jersey, just the fact that they both were wearing Seattle-themed cycling jerseys was enough for her. Ever since she put hers on for the first time, she’s been very busy planning places for them to wear them together, and all the things they can store in the handy back pockets.
While the Kaidel Sportswear line includes many Pacific Northwest designs, these aren’t basic jerseys with Seattle emblazoned on the front {although they do have those as well, technically. But, even the ones with landmarks and towns across the front have an awesome retro race styling}. Their jerseys feature all the famous Seattle icons like the Space Needle, piers, ferry boats, and mountains that we love so much, and they do it with a style you just don’t see in other sports gear.
My husband had a really hard time deciding which jersey he liked best, but in the end he chose the Pacific Northwest Cycling Jersey with Mt. Rainier and Ferry because we loved the colors and design. My daughter got the kid’s jersey that features Alaskan Way waterfront artwork designed by “Larry Gets Lost in Seattle” illustrator John Skewes, which is perfect because we are big fans of his work.
While the cool artwork and design of the jerseys got us interested, the technical features and great fit of the 100% polyester jerseys really sold us. With performance fabric that wicks moisture away from your body and a ¾ length front zipper it is very easy to regulate your temperature. Add in the pockets along the back, and it’s clear that these are serious jerseys suitable for commuting, racing, or sport.
But, best of all the fit is just a little looser than most cycling jerseys so you don’t have to jump right in to skin tight clothing if this is your first jersey. It fits more like a fitted tee than sports clothing, so it’s comfortable to wear out once you get where you’re going, but still fits nice on the trail. If you do want a tighter, race fit, you simply order a size down and everyone is happy. And, if by chance you are not happy with the size you ordered, they offer easy and quick size exchanges with their included free return shipping pouch!
If you love sports and are from the Seattle area, love the Seattle area, or know someone who falls into either of those categories, I urge you to check out Kaidel Sportswear. In addition to cycling jerseys, they also have running shirts, jackets and hats with their signature style to choose from. I adore the Run Seattle Run shirt {below} and think it just might convince me to do some running… someday.
