Perplexus Puzzle Game

Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide: Day 28

In our house, mazes and puzzles are a very big deal and we love the challenge of racing each other or the clock to figure them out. But, as much as we love doing mazes and puzzles on paper, they are so much more exciting when they are in 3D, which is why we simply adore life size versions and games that have puzzle or maze aspects.

01 Far and away the coolest new game that incorporates these is Perplexus, which just might be the most addicting single-person game ever. By completely enclosing a maze-like marble race track inside a clear basketball sized container, it allows you to pick up the game anytime you like and challenge yourself or your friends.

No setup, no chasing down the BB sized metal ball, and no way to cheat (hence, no way to argue), all make Perplexus a parent favorite. This ease of play also means it's a great game to pick up anytime you're bored or have a minute to play and {in theory} just as easy to set down without having a project to disassemble and put away.

Perplexus Small The game is also incredibly easy to play with no instructions required.  Simply shake the Perplexus game to get the ball at the 'start' position and then maneuver the ball through the maze of plastic pathways inside to the finish. Each of these paths twist and turn around each other and will have you tilting, spinning, and flipping the ball around to successfully move your game piece throughout the maze.

It had been out of the package for mere moments before our first competition began: how far we could move our game piece on the first try. I'm happy to report that I got all the way to maze marker #30 before my piece fell off the track and I handed over, making me the clear winner in our first round. Unfortunately my easy first win seems to have completely jinxed me, because I still have yet to get farther than 35, but, it has certainly been fun trying!

02 If you’re looking for a great family game to give this year or something to have out when the guests arrive for the holidays, look no further than Perplexus. It’s recommended for a large range of ages which makes it perfect for a joint present or for when you’ve got a tough crowd to entertain. My husband firmly believes that every doctor's office and waiting room should have their own Perplexus – it certainly would make the wait a lot more fun!

P.S. If you get past 35, please email me and tell me the trick 🙂

  8. Roll the ball to one of the starting points, numbered 1 2 or 3 (we suggest starting with #1) If you can´t find them…. put PERPLEXUS down and slowly back away!
Flip, twist and spin PERPLEXUS to move the ball along the numbered path. When you fall off the track…. cuz it´s gonna happen…. just start over!!!
If you make it to the end, pat yourself on the back… then go get the next PERPLEXUS challenge!
