Recently there’s been a lot of talk about “shop and give” programs where a company will donate a small portion of profits to a charity or cause for every purchase. As great as these are, I tend to be a bit skeptical of what is classified as profits and always wonder how much of my money is actually going to the cause. Typically, I prefer to donate money directly so I can be sure the charity is getting my goods or money directly. But, even better is when I find a company like Baby Zoowon that has a truly awesome shop and give program that gives directly to children in need.
Instead of offering 5%, 10%, or even 20%, Baby Zoowon generously offers a buy one, give one program that makes them one of my favorite new stores. For every blanket purchased, Baby Zoowon gives one to a child in need, offering children who might otherwise be unable to afford one a special security blanket. The best part is that their “One for me, One for you” lasts all year round, not just for a few weeks after an event and not just around the holidays.
As if that’s not enough, Baby Zoowon also donates a portion of every sale to help families with the overwhelming cost of adoption which helps families to adopt children in need. Seriously, how could you not love a company like Baby Zoowon? And that’s before you’ve even had a chance to hold one of their adorable baby blankets.
And Baby Zoowon makes some of the cutest and highest quality baby blankets anywhere. They are created with the most adorable fabrics and patterns, and most of them are really unique so you won’t be struggling to find your kiddo’s special blanket at playdates. We received a Classic Baby Blanket for review, and my daughter is absolutely in love with it. Their Classic Blanket collection is designed with a soft cotton patterned print on the front and a white minky snuggle side to make it irresistible to cuddlers. A small adorable Baby Zoowon elephant appliqué that coordinates with the printed side is sewn onto the minky fabric that is absolutely adorable and adds another dimension of fun to the blanket.
Besides their Classic Blanket collection, Baby Zoowon also offers a line of ruffle blankets, satin blankets and has a satin ruffle blanket collection so you can can get that perfect blanket for your little one. They also have bibs, burb cloths and gift sets so you can create the perfect new baby present, and one that comes with a great story about sharing and caring.
Just recently my daughter has become a blanket baby, and specifically, she has become a Baby Zoowon Blanket Baby. When she’s relaxing at night, you can bet she’s got that blanket snuggled up to her cheek. Then when she’s playing during the day, the blanket becomes her doll snuggly. She likes to make sure the elephant appliqué is visible so she can point at it and I’ll make elephant noises for her, but mostly, she just likes to make sure her Baby Zoowon is always nearby for spur-of-the-moment snuggles.
A bit more about the company, from the Baby Zoowon website:
Their Story: Baby Zoowon was created by a stay at home mom. While raising three children and in the process of adopting from Ethopia it became increasingly obvious that there is an incredible need. With 4.6 million orphans in Ethiopia alone making a difference seemed impossible. Owner Sherry Lopez realized that this is not a “one person job,” but with your help Baby Zoowon will make a difference in the life of a child – one purchase at a time.
Baby Zoo-what? The Lopez family is currently in the processes of adoption from Ethiopia. Zoowon is the Amharic word for Elephant. We all know that an elephant never forgets so we thought it’s the perfect animal to represent us remembering those that have been forgotten.
Why baby blankets? “Research and experience have shown that a favorite blanket can be a soothing and comforting transitional object as children face changes early in life and can actually help them develop emotionally,” said Judith Jerald, MSW and Early Childhood Advisor to Save the Children’s U.S. Programs. “Children born into poverty often face a higher level of stress and more anxiety-producing situations than those from more affluent families, making their trusted blanket all the more important.
