Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights

We love the Govee permanent outdoor lights and the curtain lights and were so excited to receive them this season for review. As always, no monetary compensation was received for this rave review.

Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights

Every year, we get the outdoor lights up later than we hoped to. And, every year we swear we won’t do that again this year. It’s not that we don’t have good intentions, it’s just that the holiday season is so busy and the weather rarely cooperates for us. So, every year comes the game of watching the calendar and the weather app hoping we end up with some non-rainy daylight hours without any obligations.

On top of that, with our house being two stories tall, the idea of going up to the upper floor every year is pretty daunting. The normal routine now has become that we get the lights up a good week or two later than we intended, and have completely given up doing anything above the first story.

But, what if we could permanently install Christmas lights and never have to play that game again? When we first heard about Govee permanent outdoor lights we knew it was going to be a good match. The idea of installing them once and then being done forever is obviously the most appealing part, but there are so many benefits to permanent lights that we are still realizing as the days go on. Things like being able to change the colors and decorate for all the seasons is one of the biggest benefits, and being able to completely change the look of our house with just the touch of an app.

We received the 100-foot Wild Robot themed Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 and set of Govee Curtain Lights 2.  The permanent outdoor lights come as six interconnected sections plus two light-less extension cables so you can work around any obstacles on your house that you don’t want lit. The curtain lights are 4.9 feet wide by 6.6 feet tall and consist of strands of LEDs that work together to create patterns and images together.

Before we got to the actual installation, we sketched out how the light strand should flow around the eaves of our house to give us the best coverage. We realized quick in the designing process that we would need three more permanent light extensions from Govee so we ordered those before we started. After we had that part planned out, we tested the lights under our kitchen island to see how the distance you mount the lights from the house changes the shape of the light. By testing it beforehand we determined that we liked the lights best when they were about 2.5 inches away from the wall of the house. This gave us a little softer shape vs. the harder triangle of light if they are right up against the house.

For the curtain lights, the side of our deck next to the stairs turned out to be the perfect size and a great way to see how the installation process works before jumping on the roof. Both light sets make use of double-sided tape but are a little different in how they go up. The curtain lights have brackets that you stick up which the lights then snap into, while the permanent outdoor lights you stick the lights up directly, and they also include a screw in bracket that fits around the lights.

Since it was already a little chilly outside, we used a heat gun to warm up the double-sided tape a little, and the clips stuck up very easily. We had the curtain lights up and running in about 15 minutes, and after adding them in the Govee app we immediately began switching between the 200+ scene modes before settling on the Christmas Dance for our first night. Not coincidentally, that same night our oldest daughter got a text from a friend in the neighborhood asking where we got our new lights, so they definitely put on quite a show.

For the permanent lights, we decided to call in some help from a friend who paints houses, since he has all the skills {and ladders} that we lack for getting up on roofs. The installation was also quite simple. We still used the heat gun to warm up the tape and stick each light in place, then slid the bracket around the light and cable and zipped in the two screws to hold them in place. He had the upper eaves done in just a few hours, and then left a light-less strand down to the first floor so we could run the lights across the lower story once the extension lights arrived.

All in all, the installation of the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights was so much easier than we had anticipated, and the result was even better than we hoped. It was a few hours work for something that will save us so much time and energy in the coming years. Now we’re ready for all the holidays, birthdays, parties, and we never, ever have to plan a day to be terrified on a ladder.
