As a family, we love being outside and enjoying nature. We’ve spent our spring enjoying the cherry blossoms, prancing in the tulips, camping, hiking, and going on more walks in the woods than I can count. I’ve taken roughly 6,000 pictures of all the fun we’ve been having and we’ve got some big adventures coming up that are all about getting back to nature.
There’s just something about the feeling of being outside with the kiddos, watching them explore and play in nature. It’s such a great way to learn about the world around them, and it wears them out in a way that hanging out at home simply cannot. But, the best thing about spending so much time in nature is the way that the kids really open up and want to bond.
There’s something about being out in fresh air that makes kids want to tell you what is really going on in their lives. You hear about all the little details of their days, all their hopes and dreams, and all the fears they were too scared to talk about indoors. I swear we have the best talks while simply walking hand in hand outdoors and it’s where so much of our family bonding occurs.
But, while I would definitely consider us an outdoorsy family that loves to travel and explore, I don’t necessarily want to always look the part. This is why we gravitate to prAna clothing, for our adventures both big and small. Not only do we love their vast selection of clothing and gear for women and men, we love that they make sustainable fashion by using materials and partnering with those that adhere to strict guidelines for safety and efficacy. This means they’re able to make beautiful and functional products we love, and in a way that we can all feel good about.
I have shared my love of prAna clothing many times on the blog, so I know many of you are fans, too. But, what I’ve never shared before is how much I love their mens clothing. I see more than my fair share of outdoorsy clothing each year for men, but rarely do I find a company like prAna that pulls together mountain retreat attire, travel comfort and sportswear without ever coming across as too casual for everyday wear.
Being from Seattle, you get really used to typical outdoor clothing showing up in virtually every situation you can imagine. Fancy dinners out? Yep, there’s going to be someone there with a puffy jacket in the coat check. Business conference? There’s going to be someone there in all hemp clothing, I guarantee it. In Seattle, vests are worn year-round and we have such things as “fancier” raincoats vs “everyday” raincoats. Seriously.
But, the folks at prAna understand that what may be completely acceptable everyday outdoor gear in Seattle may not be in other places. With prAna you get the best of both worlds because although the clothing and accessories are very much real outdoorsy gear, you would never know it if you looked at them. Instead of designing for functionality without considering fashion, prAna clothing is truly fashion-forward and can be worn just about anywhere.
Our first prAna mens purchase was actually an impulse buy based only on looks, which is incredibly rare for me. It happened because we were running in store to pick up an item we ordered at REI and from across the building I spotted and then fell in love with a plaid button-down shirt from prAna. I knew we would be leaving with that shirt for hubby. That shirt is now 3+ years old, but it is still one of our very favorite items of clothing we have ever bought. It has been packed for every vacation, has managed to make its way into numerous family photos, and it is still one of hubby’s go-to shirts for our days out.
prAna sustainable fashion for all of our many adventures
In checking out the prAna website this spring for a new favorite shirt for hubby, I was yet again blown away by their line. Since we do a lot of traveling in the warmer months, I love that most of their styles can be dressed up or down depending on where we might end up. After perusing the site, I choose the Holstad short sleeve shirt that couldn’t look more like him. After I had the top figured out, I then decided to get him a new pair of pants as well.
You see, my husband is hard to fit for pants and has been trying different brands for years trying to find comfortable yet stylish pants for our adventures. After reading about the Bridger Jean, I knew they were perfect for him and solved many of the problems he has found with other denim. I mean, just look at this stretch!
The Bridger Jean has classic 5-pocket styling and is constructed from prAna’s signature organic cotton/poly blend. This blend somehow combines softness with durability and also combines a slim fit with a good stretch. With a variety of colors available, I went out of both of our comfort zones and ordered him the “Mud” color.
Although the Bridger Jean we ordered is not a typical denim rinse, I love that I can actually picture him wearing these through multiple seasons. And, as an added bonus it means he can even wear them to places that typical denim might be frowned upon.
Once he tried on the new outfit, I knew I had chosen just right. As much as I loved both pieces in the catalog, I really fell in love with them in person. As with all prAna clothing, it’s the little details that make them stand out, which means you get excited each time you pull it out of your closet.
Even though the pants are a slim fit, the stretch makes them super comfortable and my husband says that he already loves them. And, unlike other fashion denim, the Bridger Jean is still super practical for my husband who carries approximately 80 pounds of stuff around with him each day in his pockets.
This is why we love prAna sustainable fashion for all of our many adventures. It’s functional, well designed, and it goes everywhere with us.
