I’m super excited that today is the day that The Lion King is out on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital for the first time as part of the Walt Disney Signature Collection. The Lion King has been beloved since its release in 1994, and my little sister was one of its biggest fans. I know I watched parts of it so many times with her in the past 20+ years but I honestly don’t think I’ve seen it all the way through for almost two decades.
Seeing it now with fresh eyes, I really appreciated the coming-of-age story of The Lion King, filled with humor and heart, and fun animation. Of course, I loved hearing all the award-winning music that used to play on repeat during my childhood {I think I must have heard “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” thousands of times in the thick if my sister’s obsession}. Well, now The Lion King roars to its rightful place in the Walt Disney Signature Collection today so audiences will fall in love all over again and a new generation of fans will be smitten with Simba, Mufasa, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa – I know my kiddos were. My kids can’t stop talking about how much they love The Lion King and I can’t help but think of the “Circle of Life” at work. When The Lion King first came out, I was just a little bit older than my oldest and now here she is enjoying the same film I used to love and singing the same sweet and silly songs.
In addition to enjoying watching the film again for the first time in years, I love that they release includes over three hours of classic bonus material and exclusive, brand new features. We enjoyed singing along with the film’s award-winning music, watching recording sessions, stepping inside the story room, witnessing the evolution of a villain, and joining Nathan Lane (voice of Timon) and Matthew Broderick (voice of Adult Simba) for an extended conversation regarding the legacy of “The Lion King.” Want to see something really cool?
