I have always loved Christmas. The lights, the sounds, the events… everything. But, now with three little kiddos soaking up all the possibilities of the season, the holidays are positively magical. Of course there are the big events that everyone loves, like the pictures with Santa and taking a spin on the holiday carousel, but I think I love the small moments even more. Nothing can top our dance parties as we trim the tree and decorate, matching Gymmies by the fire, or sitting under the tree telling holiday stories. As much as I know the kids love the big stuff, it’s going to be all those little things that they remember most as our family traditions. Gymboree knows that life is full of happy moments, and they launched the One Big Happy campaign that encourages every family to celebrate the special moments, no matter the size.
This holiday season I’m thinking about all of our family traditions we’ve created to celebrate the holidays and I’m filled with love for these little kiddos and the laughter they bring into my life. It always amazes me how much fun we can have doing the truly mundane – like returning a sweater or popping into the bank for a bit – but I guess it’s how you approach the everyday tasks that make them fun.
I laugh every time we get asked if we’re out doing something special simply because my children are dancing together in coordinated outfits. Nope, that’s just the way they roll. Full of laughter and love… and almost always coordinating.
I figure I only have a small window of time where they beg for matching dresses and Gymmies every time we go to Gymboree, and the joy they get out of it is so incredibly worth it. Why save special dresses just for special occasions? I say wear them as many times as you can and make every day a special day. So, when my daughter begged for these dresses for her and the baby when we were shopping at Gymboree, how on earth could I refuse? Sure, I’ll get the two of you some adorable holiday dresses and some coordinating duds for your brother. It’s the perfect thing to wear when we’re out seeing the lights in downtown Seattle, or when we’re grocery shopping, or for holiday parties.
Not to mention that it makes it super easy to get good holiday card pictures because I literally have a few weeks’ worth of photos to choose from that I’ve snapped during our adventures with them in their new favorite outfits. I truly think these kiddos could get anyone in the holiday spirit, and trust me that there have been times when I’ve really needed this cheer during the holidays. And, these days my cheer comes in three coordinated kiddos. What are some ways you make your holidays happy?
