This isn’t just luck, I’ve got a secret weapon on my side when it comes to taking care of my car: Regular maintenance. This may sound too simple to be considered a secret, but you would be surprised how many people neglect regular maintenance and then wonder why their engine parts are failing after only a few years.

But, I come from a family who treats their cars like beloved friends and ends up owning cars for decades. We record mileage, we schedule our 30k checks, and, possibly the most important of all, we never skip our oil changes. It’s no surprise that I ended up with a husband who is diligent about these tasks as well as tasks my auto-illiterate family never even considered keeping up with, like fluid flushes, replacing hardworking parts before they fail, and mentally keeping a list of a potential part expiration dates and ordering new parts just in case.

It sounded crazy to me at first, too, until I saw the first time a mechanic popped the hood of my car and just about tried to buy it on the spot. It turns out regular maintenance is not so regular these days, which absolutely blows my mind.Taking care of your carEven something as simple as oil changes are overlooked by many, or it is assumed that all oils are created equal. But, the truth is that there is a huge difference between oils. For instance, Pennzoil products help clean out sludge lesser oils leave behind and provide better protection from friction. Putting Pennzoil in your vehicle allows you to drive up to an extra 550 miles per year vs. a dirty engine. Choose your Pennzoil motor oil based on your car’s needs and leave the rest to Pennzoil:

Conventional Motor Oil {yellow bottle}– A traditional oil base, fortified with Active Cleaning Agents™ to continuously prevent dirt and contaminants from creating performance-robbing deposits.
High Mileage Vehicle {gold bottle} – Helps to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. It’s a motor oil that is specifically designed for new or late model vehicles with over 75,000 miles, to help keep the engines running clean and going strong for a long time.
Platinum Synthetic Motor Oil {silver bottle} – Best cleanliness and protection in the Pennzoil line-up. With PurePlus™ Technology, the Platinum® motor oil is proven to keep pistons up to 40% cleaner than the toughest industry standard. PurePlus™ Technology is a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil.Car care kitAnd, Pennzoil even offers a free warranty that covers 15 engine parts that may fail due to engine wear or which experience abnormal wear due to friction. How awesome is that?!

The good news is that you don’t even have to marry a handy hubby like mine, as you can get your oil changed right where you shop at WalMart. Simply stop by a WalMart Automotive Care Center, tell them you want a Pennzoil oil change, and then go inside to shop while they take care of the rest. No appointment necessary. When you are done shopping, you stop back by and pick up your car and you both can return home refreshed. Walmart oil and lubeWith baby #3’s arrival mere days away, I really appreciated being able to cross getting an oil change off of my list while doing my regular grocery/diaper/basics shopping. Hubby especially was excited that the oil change was taken care of now that I’ve got him doing all the random last minute things like assembling the crib, installing car seats, and painting in preparation for baby.Walmart tire and lubeNot only was it super easy to drop the car off and go inside the store through the back entrance {which I had never noticed up until now}, they even page you over the intercom or call your cell phone when your car is done so you don’t need to sit in the waiting room. Of course, you can sit in the waiting room if you’d like to take a load off after shopping or you just feel like watching some TV or flipping through a magazine. Walmart waiting roomWhen the Automotive Care Center called with the news my car was finished, I had already finished grocery shopping and had a full cart of food and even some fun stuff as well. Also on the plus side? Getting my daily dose of walking in during the time it took them to finish up on my vehicle. It certainly beats sitting in an uncomfortable waiting room watching the clock and thinking of all the little things that are still on your list!

Normally you would pay an arm and a leg for convenience such as this, but I was surprised to find that having my oil changed at WalMart ended up being a big cost savings over other places I have looked at. If I had gone with the Convention Oil change it is only $29.99 to have their pros take care of my beloved car for me while I get other things done – which adds up to a huge savings when you factor in time saved. Stop into WalMart and make getting your oil change convenient and easy, and it’s a great way to justify a little retail therapy. What have you done for your car lately? It may vary by region, but Walmart will also match competitors coupons for an oil change. If your local Midas or Jiffy Lube send out a $14.99 coupon, they will match it.

My last car lasted me 20 years. I am very careful about regular maintenance. My current car is only 13 years old.

It’s so important to take good care of your car. And it’s a huge bonus to get your car taken care of while also doing errands…I’ll be stopping at Walmart next time I need an oil change! #client

Reading this I thought there was no way my WalMart has an auto center, but it turns out that they do! Ha! How convenient is that?

My husband usually changes the oil in the cars and like to do it at home, on occasion we may take it to the shop.

I think it is a really good idea to get regular maintenance done on cars, just to be sure that they are working properly. I haven’t always been very good about going in for regular repairs on my car and getting it checked. Since you go often for mileage checks and get your oil changed regularly, I am sure that is really helping to keep your car looking good. It sounds like getting this maintenance done isn’t too difficult of a task, so I would really like to start getting this kind of maintenance done so that my car stays nice!
