Johnson’s shares their Promise To Baby

When I was expecting for the first time, my husband and I were beyond thrilled. We did all the first-time parent stuff like pregnancy journals, maternity pictures, and we busied ourselves getting ready for baby by decorating the nursery and washing all the little clothes.

As a way to express their commitment to babies everywhere, Johnson’s has created a video sharing their promise. Based on a Japanese legend that folding 1,000 origami cranes will result in a wish granted and a hope fulfilled, Johnson’s scientists came together with their families to create an origami "stork" mobile to show parents that the promise they make to baby is the Johnson's promise, too.

I love all the notes written inside the folded storks with promises to babies – both their own and to babies everywhere. I want to do something similar with a butterfly mobile in my daughter's room to write down all the many, many promises I have for my children.

Starting with the promise to always try my hardest to keep them safe, even if that means I won't be very popular during the teen years. But, also things like promising to always seek out the things that they enjoy the most. I may not be a car person, but you can bet I will learn about cars now that I'm raising a little car-lover and I always want to be able to bond with him over the things he is drawn to. For my daughter, I promise to never let you hear myself talk down to myself and share my negative body image. The world has plenty of that without bringing it home, too.

And, I will finish off my promises by vowing to always love them unconditionally and to see each of them as individuals, even if the person they grow into isn't the person I imagined they would be. A mother's love is forever.
