While we have a lot of fun trying out new cars whenever the opportunity arises, the truth of the matter is that we really love our car. It may not have all the fancy features available on newer models, but my wife and I both agree that our car still just feels right, for both of us.
Having an older car that we both love is great in so many ways, but most important is that its paid for. Of course, the other side of that coin is that we are long out of warranty, so maintaining the car is fully our responsibility.
We recently had to replace the tires for the second time since we've owned it, and boy was it an eye opening experience. The first time we chose some tires that were a little sportier than stock and we loved the results, so this time around I asked our neighborhood tire guys for something similar, but they really missed the mark.
The tires we left with were a much softer tire that allowed waaaay more roll and weight shifting side to side. Thinking maybe we could enjoy a softer ride we tried them for a while, but couldn’t believe how much tires affected that perfect "feel" that our car had before.
Lucky for us, Goodyear came to our rescue in the form of their new Eagle Sport All-Season tires. I couldn't wait for them to arrive so we could upgrade to high-performance, sporty tires just in time for an epic road trip down to Portland.
Of course, we were thrilled when these bad boys showed up at our door. And yes, this is exactly how they showed up at the door, minus the small child, which we added for dramatic effect.
After they arrived, it was a quick phone call to our local Goodyear to see about bringing in the car, and then a quick trip into the shop while they installed them. The Goodyear reps were great and had us in and out of there in less than an hour with our brand new tires, which was great because we were all set for a road trip and tires were the last to-do before we hit the road to Portland.
Immediately upon driving out of the lot, I could feel the difference in the way the car handled. The Goodyear tires brought back the tight cornering and road feel that had been missing since our last tire swap, with no penalty in comfort.
Of course, I really wanted to feel how the tires would handle on something other than straight highways and cruising around town. We got our wish when the freeway completely closed due to an early morning backup and we were forced to take a detour that led us deeper into Washington's mountainous back roads than we had ever ventured before.
The Goodyears were more than up to the task, hugging the road through every corner, both wet and dry. In fact, it was probably annoying how much I kept gushing about the superior handling and my renewed love for our old car as we cruised along our curvy, unfamilar route.
Most people don't understand the difference tires can make on their cars, which floors me. To me, it's like wearing flip flops to play sports and cleats to go dancing, the truth is footwear makes a difference. Those 4 tires are what connects your car to the road and what keeps you rolling, yet they don’t get nearly the amount of love they deserve.
Beyond performance attributes your tires also clearly affect your fuel mileage, stopping ability, and traction in inclement weather. And, to keep you running good and safe longer this new high-performance tire also carries a 50,000-mile tread life limited warranty, which gives me peace of mind while navigating backroads and highways.
