Emile Henry Pizza Stone

Cozy At Home Event – Day 19

One of our favorite things to experiment with in the kitchen is with different types of pizza.  Because it is easy to make with whatever ingredients you have on hand, great for leftovers, and a big crowd pleaser, you really can’t go wrong with a fresh pizza pie when you’re feeding a group.  Until recently, we made pizza on a traditional cookie sheet which produced lackluster results.  Besides requiring grease so you could remove it in one piece, it also never seemed to crisp the crust quite right.

At one point we went out and bought a generic pizza stone to try out, but we absolutely hated how hard it was to clean and thought it was really cumbersome to move from the oven to the trivet since it didn’t have handles.  Yes, the pizza was marginally better than on a cookie sheet, but it really just wasn’t worth the hassle of cleaning and maintaining the unfinished pizza stone.

Pizza-stone-blk-150x150 The 14” Emile Henry Pizza Stone has completely changed the way we think about pizza stones by adding a glazed surface that is incredibly easy to use as well as being dishwasher safe.  This special ceramic Pizza Stone is manufactured using Emile Henry’s Flame Technology that allows it to not only withstand high oven temperatures, it also can be used on the stovetop, on the grill (gas, charcoal, or natural wood), and even in the microwave!  Add in the fact that it is extremely durable and that you are even able to cut right on the Pizza Stone, and I’m sure you can see why we’re raving about it.

But, it’s not just the versatility of the Pizza Stone that makes it unique, it’s also clever touches that make it one of our favorite new kitchen accessories.  Solving one of our biggest complaints about pizza stones are the convenient built-in handles that make it easy to position the Emile Henry Pizza Stone in the oven as well as transport the pizza to the table.  Solving our next complaint about pizza stones is the Flame Technology micro-crazed glaze finish that adds a crispy pizza oven taste and yet still is incredibly easy to clean, even with high-temperature baked on cheese.

Pizza-grill Because the Emile Henry Pizza Stone absorbs moisture from the pizza dough while it cooks, the result is a consistently crispy crust that isn’t doughy in the middle or burnt on the bottom, which are two of the fastest ways to ruin a homemade pizza.  This is especially great for those picky about overcooked toppings (me) or those who hate precooking the pizza dough ahead of time (also me).

While we adore our brick oven pizza and love that we can now make it quickly and easily at home, we’ve also found quite a few other uses for the Emile Henry Pizza Stone in between pizza days.  This has included making rolls and breads, reheating leftover pizza and even baking chocolate chip cookies that were absolute perfection.  While we did have to adjust the recipes slightly to account for heating the Pizza Stone to temperature, the results were absolutely delicious and some of our new favorite uses of the Pizza Stone.

I’m so excited that we can now literally cook pizza anywhere in the kitchen – or the backyard – and produce results that the whole family adores.  Because of its amazing versatility, ease of use, and easy cleanup, the Emile Henry Pizza Stone is simply one of our favorite tools of 2010.
