Handmade Cute from Cate & Levi

Last year at the ABC Kids Expo, I got to meet the amazing dad behind the Cate & Levi brand. If you aren’t familiar with the company, you definitely should be. Cate and Levi is based in Toronto, Canada and uses reclaimed fabrics and textiles to make all sorts of covetable goodies for kids of all ages.

Basically, I love each and every one of their products. Especially this walrus. Adorable, no?

Since meeting them and getting introduced to the Cate & Levi brand, I have slowly noticed them creeping into the Seattle kids market. Since my kids took my Cate & Levi flyer from me as soon as I returned from Kentucky, they recognized their products immediately when they saw them the first time and went running to them, playing with their animal hand puppets, stuffed animals, and little purses.

While they are drawn to all things Cate & Levi, my daughter especially loves the puppets and insists upon making them all talk and sing whenever we run across a display. So, of course, I agreed to do a review of the new line of people puppets as soon as I heard they were released and then eagerly awaited its arrival.

As you can imagine, when our special puppet made its way to our house, the kiddos were overjoyed. When they realized it was a handmade pirate for our pirate lagoon playroom, well, let’s just say there was some dancing.

But, how could you not dance when you’ve got an awesome new friend to play with?

As cute as the pirate puppet is {and, it is cute… see above}, I love all the open-ended play that it has inspired. Since our pirate has come to stay, it has encouraged the kiddos to do spontaneous puppet shows for us, use their imaginations, and to really engage with each other.

For hours they will perform, play, and pretend together and I love every second of watching them bond as siblings. Is it any wonder why we all love Cate & Levi?

But, above how much I love each and every one of their products, I also love how responsible Cat & Levi is and how they truly give back to their community. Whereas some companies claim to be “green” by simply limiting their packaging, Cate & Levi actually uses repurposed fabric and creates handmade toys and gifts for kids, both of which reduce their environmental impact.

But, beyond reducing their fooprint, the eclectic fabrics and quirky handmade details are where Cate & Levi products get their unmistakable charm.

Because each piece is handmade with reclaimed wool fabrics, it means that no two are ever the same, which just might be my favorite thing about the brand. While it can make it difficult from a stockist prospective, as a customer, I love that each piece is unique. Knowing that if we order another pirate puppet it might have solid arms instead of striped sleeves just makes me feel a little bit giddy inside.
