Philips LivingColors LED Light

I resolve to… Add some fun to my décor

When you think of decorating, very few people jump to lighting.  Even though it might not be the first thing you thing of, you’d be surprised at how much lighting can change the feel of a room.  Of course you can buy lamps to soften your space and add light to highlight areas of interest, but what if you could actually design with light?

Philips understands that lighting should be much more than an afterthought and gives some truly innovative solutions to give your home any feel you would like.  From special light bulbs that can brighten your home as well as save you money to fixtures that can beautify our space, Philips has a whole array of lighting products to choose from.

C26-B003TFEQQC-1-s We recently got to check out the new LivingColors Generation 2 lamp that is unlike any lighting fixture I have ever seen.  Instead of a traditional lamp with a base and a shade, the LivingColors is a clear orb that has a conical shaped lamp inside of it.  Also unlike any traditional lamp is the fact that LivingColors can create 16 million colors (including white) with its 7 high power and log lasting internal LEDs to change the look of your space in an instant.

While I simply cannot even imagine 16 million colors, I can appreciate how much fun playing around with LivingColors is.  Even more fun is the fact that the LivingColors comes with a remote, so you can change the feel of your room over and over without having to get up each time.  Or, you can set it to automatically (or automagically, as we like to say) change colors on its own, even adjusting the speed in which the colors change.  I love that I can change the lighting from warm to cool and thus the entire feel of my home over and over throughout the day.

413eP1cFr5L._AA300_ I have a big, open floor plan and I’m simply not brave enough to paint my walls, which means most of my home is the same warm cream color we chose during the building process.  Part of me fears that I would end up painting my entire house if I wasn’t careful, so I love that I can change the color of my walls and ceilings by the flip of a switch – or rather, the touch of a remote.

While at first I really didn’t think I needed a lamp with a remote, I have found this feature to be one of my favorite of the LivingColors.  Being able to dim the light, change the color and intensity, and turn off the unit – or units, if you have more than one – from a distance is actually quite cool and a big part of why I love LivingColors.  Add in the fact that the remote is touch sensitive and intuitive, allowing you to choose any spot on the color wheel to change the color of light and you can see why the LivingColors is fun to play with.

I actually have two really pretty lamps in my living room that are more decorative than they are functional.  With barely a moment to myself these days, I am pretty picky about the way I spend each moment that I am not feeding or caring for kiddos.  This means that I don’t ever find the time to turn on these beautiful lamps and they sit dark 99.9% of the time.  Since the LivingColors light remote sits right next to the stereo remote and the TV remote, it’s really easy to turn it on as soon as we come into the room, which means that it is actually on 99.9% of the time.

41Z0NsCSbjL._SL500_AA300_ My daughter is especially taken with the LivingColors and loves to change it to purple or pink when I’m not looking, making the walls of my living room look like the princess house she thinks it is.  While the LivingColors is portable and could easily be placed in her bedroom as a special treat, it could also be placed in a movie room, family room, or even an office to add some flair and ambiance.

Something I think is going to be a lot of fun is changing the LivingColors to reflect what we’re doing throughout the year.  What would be really fun is decorating with colors – warm and rich tones in the autumn, cool and bright colors in the spring, relaxing colors to soothe, and bright colors to cheer you up or even changing the colors to decorate with your favorite teams colors this January (side note: go Seahawks!).  Whether it’s an aqua blue for when we watch Finding Nemo, or it’s dark red for our Halloween movie night, the LivingColors is a really fun addition to any family room.

Even if you’re not looking for lighting units, Philips has some really great lighting solutions that can work in your existing fixtures.  They even have a new 60 watt LED lamp that is a great replacement for the standard 60 watt light bulb.  We got to borrow one for a few weeks and found it to be substantially brighter than either our CFL lights or our standard can lights.  It was also quicker to turn on and was a gorgeous white that the photographer in me prefers over the yellowish or bluish lights I’m used to.  Even better is that it only uses 12.5 watts of power and is dimmable, something that I love.
