Talk to a doctor online 24 hours a day with Amwell {plus coupon code!}

This post is sponsored by Amwell but all thoughts and opinions are honest and entirely my own.

Have you ever noticed that most medical questions come up on weekends or well after business hours? My kids are famous for the late night announcement that they have a horrible rash that’s been bugging them all week or they have a rock stuck in their ear and can’t sleep. You know, typical kid stuff. Wouldn’t it be really awesome if the only options weren’t either sitting in an ER all night or waiting it out until the doctor’s office opens up again?

Well, there is! I found out about Amwell four years ago and I’m still a huge fan. Amwell is the nation’s largest telehealth company and they have doctors available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That means Amwell gives you medical advice right from the comfort of home or when you’re out on an adventure, whenever you may need it. That means that you won’t miss out on a fun day hiking with the family just to sit in a waiting room all day. Mama Laughing with kiddos

It’s true. You will never again have to Google symptoms and mom-diagnose or sit in an ER all night only to find that it’s a minor rash. No need to rearrange your schedule to make the only appointment available at your doctor’s office or waiting weeks without getting seen. And, no piling kids into the car and sitting in traffic, no masks to cover coughs or hand sanitizer to keep healthy kids healthy, and no keeping kids entertained while in the waiting room or in the office before the doctor has time to see you.

Finally, you have doctors on your schedule with Amwell. The app is available on iOS and Android devices so you can use it on your phone, laptop, or tablet. It’s medical assistance without all the drama and stress, whether it’s after hours, on weekends, and even in the middle of the night. Amwell service is available in most states {46 states and counting}, and your visit can be about just about anything from pinkeye to coughs and fevers.Girls by lake

And, before you ask, yes, these are real, board-certified doctors. With an average of 15 years in practice, these aren’t a collection of “rookie” docs who are learning the trade; they are experienced and hand-selected doctors in a variety of specialties. From primary care to licensed behavioral therapists and registered dietitians, the Amwell doctors cover a broad range of health and wellness needs.

In many cases, the Amwell doctors can diagnose via the app, suggest follow ups, and even prescribe medications, if needed. And, because your online visit is secure and HIPAA compliant, there is no worry about privacy. While it’s not a replacement in emergency situations, it’s great for 24/7 urgent care from the comfort of home or on the go to complement your in-person care and still allow you to get out on as many adventures as you possibly can. kiddo with leaves on hike

I turned to Amwell for help with an elbow that had been driving me crazy for months and was really happy not to have to find a sitter or wrangle kiddos in a waiting room. As a busy mom with a hectic schedule, I had been trying to find the time to get into the doctor’s office to have it seen for months and hadn’t found a good time. It seemed like every time I thought about contacting someone, it was after business hours and I’d promise myself I’d do it in the morning. Well, it had been months and I hadn’t made it happen, so I thought this was a great place to start trying out the app.

Signing up for the service was easy, just a few generic questions about age, state I live in, and then some basic information. After that, I selected the field my medical issue fell into from the list, and then a few questions about what I needed to be seen about and I was ready to select a doctor from a queue of doctors who were available and ready to see me… even though it was after hours.Girls in a tree

A few minutes later, I had a doctor talking with me and we were discussing my elbow. To help her assess what was going on, she had me show her where the pain was, she asked when it was most painful, and we discussed any injuries I could recollect. She was keenly aware of little subtleties as I spoke about the issue and she even recognized that I had a baby cooing in the background. Although she was unfazed by the background noise of my little ones, she did use that information to help diagnose the problem as tendonitis and go over how I could minimize the pain I have been feeling while caring for little ones.

When we hung up, I had a plan in place on how I can care for my elbow using ice therapy and ibuprofen, ways I can prevent flare-ups, and a follow-up plan in case my elbow doesn’t improve soon. All in less than 6 minutes, with no driving, no babysitter, and no scheduling required.RR Tween jumping

Admittedly, there is never a good time for a medical dilemma, but knowing that you have Amwell literally in your back pocket makes me so incredibly happy. Having been through the stress of one of my children needing emergency dental help in the middle of the night with no ER or on call doctor that was available, I know the fear of not being able to get help when you need it. I’ll spare you the details and the gory pictures of our dental emergency, but I will tell you that I am forever changed because of that night. I spent hours calling literally everyone in my contacts list that had any sort of medical or dental background just trying to find some help for my daughter, and I will never forget that helpless feeling when every avenue was another dead end.

If I had known about Amwell back then, I would have undoubtedly used the app to talk me through our options. Perhaps I would have had a clearer head and been able to get myself together for the eventual pulling of the damaged tooth instead of begging my neighbor to do it while he facetimed with his brother in law. In this instance, I think I would have paid a couple thousand dollars for peace of mind of medical help at my fingertips – without involving my poor neighbors and their extended family.

So, would you be surprised to know that this service isn’t thousands, or even hundreds, of dollars? What if I told you that visits range from only $25 – $75 and Amwell is even accepted by many major insurers. If you were to run it through insurance, the cost could be even less.

With cold and flu season ravaging our school, I’m keeping Amwell in my back pocket for fevers, colds, sinus infections, stomach bugs, and more. And, for all seasons, it’s great to have a service to rely on when the unexpected rash, UTI, or allergy occurs.

  1. This sounds amazing! I’ve heard of these services before and always wondered if they were actually all that helpful or if it would honestly be easier to just make the doctor’s appointment, but after seeing your story, I’m sold!
