Bumbershoot? {August 30 – September 1 2104 at Seattle Center}

Yes, Bumbershoot. Not the often mispronounced “Bumpershoot”, which I’m pretty sure doesn’t mean anything at all. We’re talking Bumbershoot, as in the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival that takes place at the end of every summer in Seattle. Bumbershoot logoThis weekend thousands of music and art lovers will descend upon the Seattle Center in the shadow of the Space Needle for concerts, comedy shows, and so much more. It’s this variety that truly sets Bumbershoot apart from other festivals, and that keeps us coming back year after year.

Just on the music side of things there are artists from Elvis Costello to Wu Tang Clan, and everything in between. Bumbershoot has long been one of our favorite places to see established bands as well as up and coming artists from all over the world. With multiple stages both indoors and out there is always some good music to be found. This year we are especially excited to see The Head And The Heart, Nada Surf, and The Dismemberment Plan.

Three days of music is pretty enticing on its own, but there is so much more to see. We are big fans of stand up comedy so we always make sure to get over to some of the comedy shows. Just like the music, there is a lot of variety for these shows as well. Whether you like stand up, improv, or sketch comedy Bumbershoot has you covered. Hubby is super excited to go to the Doug Loves Movies show, and I’m looking forward to seeing Pete Holmes, Janeane Garofalo, and Startalk with Bill Nye and Eugene Mirman.

Want to hear something else super cool? Children 10 and under get in free with an accompanying adult, which makes it a great family activity. While children are welcomed most everywhere at the festival, there are even special programming and events specifically for children, appropriately called Youngershoot.

Sound like fun? I know I'm excited!
